It probably wouldn't be a weekend if I didn't ask a question So, got the 40 gallon breeder in place, where I want it, stand and hood look awesome. My newest problem is that from the front of the pine cabinet to the back of the pine cabinet, there is about a 1/4 inch slope in my floor. The stand looks like it is making good contact on the ground all around but I'm a little concerned about it leaning back a small amount (even though its only 1/4 of an inch). The tank sits perfectly on the stand.

I'm wondering how worried I need to be about leveling the stand before putting the tank on it and filling it and if you have any suggestion on the best methods for something like this. I did notice if I put a 1/4 inch long shim under the back length of the stand, it raises it up and makes it perfectly level, but then I'm in a scenario where the two side panels do not touch the ground exactly. I could shim these but I'm not sure if I need complete contact or if shimming every few inches would work.

Any thoughts?

shim the stand where the stand meets the floor

don't shim the tank

more important then the level is the twist

if it is slightly not level it's not too big a problem
but if it is not flat
you are stressing the tank

I ended up grabbing a piece of 3/4 inch plywood and painted it, which I'll put under the stand to make sure it has good contact all around and I'll just deal with the slight unlevelness of the water level. Thanks!

to clarify
the front and back 36 inch sides of the tank should be touching the stand

the stand should be touching the floor on either the left and right 18 inch sides
or on the front and back 36 inch sides

Yep - Got that all sorted out. Tank is actually filled.

One quick question - any recommendation on which side of the Penn Plax Cascade to adjust the flow rate? Is it better to do it on the intake or the return? I'm guessing the return so as not to create too much drag on the motor. The 1000 is definitely putting up some serious flow in my 40G

you may slow down the outflow of any pump

do NOT slow down the intake of any pump (it could damge the motor)

this is generally true of all submersible pumps
I don't think I have ever had the question come up with canister filters
